To the people of Cuba: For us five, prisoners of the empire, it is an honor to have been declared Heroes of the Republic of Cuba, in a National Assembly that represents struggle traditions of our people as it is represented in the shield, the Céspedes flag and the single star, heading its sessions. The meaning and honor are even greater since we have been proposed by someone that gathers in his life and work ; honor, proud and dignity of our warrior people: our invincible Commander in Chief. With deep emotion we listened to the speeches of all deputes and guests, that took the floor and we want to thank all words said about us and about our families. We want to express besides the honor we have been conferred, we consider the title of Hero of the Republic of Cuba as a compromise of our struggle until the final victory.
