Cuban Five
Support Up After US Court Ruling
Havana,
Aug 16 (AIN) The judgment of the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals of Atlanta to
reopen the case of the Cuban Five represents a triumph of Cuban diplomacy,
said Lena Loshkina, president of the Russian Committee to Free the Cuban Five.
Loshkina said that the Cuban struggle for the
release of the five men never faltered, attracting an ever increasingly number
of supporters in the US and even in Miami.
Ultra-right wing organizations in southern
Florida tried to portray the five Cubans as spies, she said, when in actually
they are brave men who risked their lives in the fight against terrorism to
protect Cuba.
The Cuban Five –Gerardo Hernandez, Antonio
Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez, Ramon Labanino and Rene Gonzalez— received
harsh sentences in a trial fraught with irregularities after uncovering
terrorist plots against Cuba being planned by violent groups in Florida that
operate with the consent of the White House.
Lena Loshkina said that since the case of the
Cuban Five was publicized in Russia, the number of supporters has sharply
increased. ycr
